In the 116th Psalm the psalmist asked,
"What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me?"
November is the month in which we gather with family and friends for an annual meal called 'Thanksgiving'.  An annual day set aside for reflecting upon all the things we have to be thankful for, and giving God praise and thanks, has been around since the most ancient of times.
Today, with the arrival of November many focus all their attention on Christmas.  Black Friday and Cyber Monday are right around the corner, as are all the annual Christmas traditions.  Thanksgiving Day, for some is just the holiday that gets in the way of Christmas.
Oh how important it is though, to slow down as we are coming to the close of another year, and to think about all the things, and all the ways, that God has blessed us and our family over the past year.  Some families are rekindling a love for Thanksgiving Day by taking a moment before they eat their Thanksgiving meal to share something they are truly thankful for.
Perhaps the old hymn writer Johnson Oatman put it best,
"Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done."
Throughout this month take some time each day to think about the many things, and the many ways God has blessed, and continues to bless you and your family.  It will not only surprise you, but it will also make Thanksgiving Day, and the Christmas holiday season more meaningful and enjoyable.
